So Superferry and Negros Navigation vessels is now a thing of the past. It is now 2GO Travel. Back in 2004 I rode a Superferry on my way to Manila for the first time. Even in the following years I took advantage of their bigger baggage allowance. None of the airlines can offer that attraction. Most airlines offer just 15 kilos of baggage at most. And the excess fee per kilo of the excess baggage is too expensive.

On a sad note, they no longer offer the Manila-Davao route because according to reports the company is facing a depleted market and cut-throat competition from airlines such as Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific and Airphil Express especially in this particular route. They pulled out the Manila-Davao route in May 2011 after they computed the cost per nautical mile and discovered that they were not raising any revenues. For Davao passengers who want to travel by 2GO, they then have to go to General Santos City. What a hassle. Well the need to ride a vessel is only when there is too much excess baggage which is very expensive in the airline. The airfare in ship is generally cheaper but not that much anyway.
The union of the passenger brands also include SuperCat and Cebu Ferries. 2GO Travel's new marketing and promotional activities include improvement of food quality and giving passengers fine dining, hotel-like accommodation and entertainment. They are also developing a new product that related tourism.
I hope to travel by ship sometime. It's fun there. If there is no need to hurry that is.
